William Seidman, chief financial commentator on CNBC and publisher of Bank Director Magazine, will speak at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 22. His free talk will be on “The U.S. Economy: What’s Ahead?” A reception will follow.
From 1974-77, Seidman advised President Ford on economic matters, serving as Ford’s assistant of economic affairs. Seidman also provided economic information to Presidents Reagan and Bush as chair of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. from 1985-91.
The speaker became the first chair of the Resolution Trust Corp. in 1989, serving until 1991. While there, he supervised the creation of an agency of 8,000 employees handling more than $400 billion in assets from failed savings and loans. The former dean of Arizona State University’s College of Business holds degrees from Dartmouth, Harvard Law School, and the University of Michigan.
Before and after the talk, guests can view the Ford Library’s feature exhibit, “Economy in Crisis, 1974-75.” The exhibit draws on rarely seen archival and museum materials to show how Ford attacked inflation, a recession, budget deficits, and oil supply worries.
The Ford Presidential Library is at 1000 Beal Ave. on the North Campus. Admission and parking are free. For information, call (734) 205-0555.
